Nuliajuk is a sea spirit of great power, and Inuit must respect her and her rules. Her father cut off her fingers for marrying a shapeshifter, and her hands and fingers transformed into all the sea mammals. She controls all the sea mammals, and so respecting her helps keep balance in the world. Inuit wear hand and wrist tattoos to honour her.

Zorga Qaunaq is an Inuk originally from Igloolik, Nunavut, and now lives in Ottawa. Qaunaq’s artforms include fur jewelry, graphic arts, storytelling, and handpoke tattooing.
